Autosomal DNA Matching

Ancestral Surnames | Ancestral Charts | Global Similarity

Matching Segments (Haploblocks) for:   John Cates | Joy Jossi | Alice Kennedy | Alton Lowe | Betty Maxwell

HOW IT WORKS:  Shared segments indicate shared ancestry.  What ancestor or surname(s) does the participant in the title share with each participant on the left side?  Use Ancestral Surnames and Ancestral Charts for assistance.  Clusters of overlapping segments indicate a shared ancestry for those in the cluster who also match each other. What ancestor or surname does the most or everyone in the cluster share?  Please e-mail your findings to peterebay@yahoo.com or post them to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BahamasGenealogyGroup/
BRoberts, NRoberts, LBaker, SBaker, and KBaker all share the same ancestor who lived in the Bahamas as indicated by their shared segment on chromosome 1 (starting at point 7,000,000 and ending at point 10,000,000).  LBaker and KBaker descend from Sarah Roberts (b. 1778 Harbour Island) and BRoberts and NRoberts descend from Elizabeth Roberts (b. abt 1780 Harbour Island).  Previous mtDNA testing indicates Sarah and Elizabeth are sisters.  The autosomal results help confirm Sarah and Elizabeth are sisters and that the matching segment is from a parent of Sarah and Elizabeth.

On chromosome one beginning near the 60 million location Betty Maxwell shares a haploblock with Clarence Sands, Matthew Pinder, Joy Jossi, Dorothea Hall, William Joseph Lloyd, Bennie Miller and Carol Roberts Lawrence.  This haploblock is likely from John Pinder (b. 1726) or his wife Frances Barnett (d. 1763) because Matthew Pinder, Joy Jossi, Bennie Miller, Carol Roberts Lawrence and Betty Maxwell are known to have this couple in their ancestry.  Clarence Sands, Dorothea Hall, and William Lloyd should look for this couple in their ancestry since this result indicates they descend from this couple (or possibly a parent or grand parent of one of them).

BRoberts, NRoberts, and BMiller all share the same ancestor who lived in the Bahamas as indicated by their shared segment on chromosome 3 (starting at point 173,000,000 and ending at point 178,000,000).  The known genealogies indicate the shared ancestor is John Pinder b. 1726 or his wife Frances Barnett d. 1763).

Neil Roberts was a 23andMe match but did not show up in this cluster.

Betty Roberts, (Neil Roberts), Joseph Henderson Higgs, Donald Scott Lowe William Joseph Lloyd, Laurie Baker and John Dyer all share the same ancestor who lived in the Bahamas as indicated by their shared segment on chromosome 10 (starting at about 95,000,000 and ending at point 102,000,000). The known genealogies are not complete enough to determine precisely who that ancestor is, but is likely Benjamin J. Albury, Eleanor Archer, or Vincent Sawyer, Jr. or one of their ancestors.

Update with location BRoberts, GMeyer, DJewell, KFitzpatrick, CHolmes, and NJONES share the same ancestor as indicated by their shared segment on chromosome 11.  The shared ancestor for this matching segment is possibly an Albury and suggests that William Albury (b. c1780 Harbour Island), and John Albury (b. 1777 Harbour Island, and Benjamin Albury (husband of Martha and father of Martha Albury) b. c1770's are brothers.
Betty Maxwell shares a haploblock in the 89 to 91 million region with Larry Higgs and E J.  All of E J's known ancestry is from Extremadura “Land of the Conquistadors” in Spain.

BRoberts "100%" Bahamian ancestry has a Family Finder (autosomal DNA) match with HParry with no known Bahamian ancestry. Their shared segment on chromosome 18  indicates a shared ancestor hundreds of years ago. The only shared surname they both have in common is Pinder. HParry's ancestor is Johanna Pinder born in 1621 in Salisbury, Essex Co., Massachusetts. Johanna's father was Harry Pinder born abt 1577 in Coleby, Lincolnshire, England.

If it is possible to find a living Pinder who descends from Harry or one of his brothers or one of his male Pinder cousins and his Y chromosome matches the Bahamian Pinders then it is most likely that the Bahamian Pinders originate near Coleby, Lincolnshire, England.
BRoberts, JJossi, and NTeruya (not in Bahamas Project) share the same ancestor as indicated by their shared 5cM segment on chromosome 19.give location  BRoberts and JJossi's 5th Great-Grandmother was Elizabeth Strode b. about 1706.  NTeruya's ancestor is Martha Strode b. abt 1696 or 1697 France, d. 24 Aug 1762, married Morgan Bryan b. 1671 Denmark.
